A intense line of severe thunderstorms has been moving across Arkansas late this morning and early this afternoon causing damaging winds as well as torrential rainfall that has caused serious flash flooding. Additionally, supercell storms have been developing ahead of the line with a tornado risk; a tornado was confirmed with a storm southwest of Jackson, TN over the last hour. There are signs the line of storms is starting to slow down which will likely exacerbate the flash flood risk, especially for the next few hours.

Tornado watches are now in effect from east Texas to middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. There is plenty of instability building ahead of the line of storms along with increasing wind shear, so supercells and the line itself could produce significant tornadoes, especially across Tennessee and northern Mississippi.
