Devastating impacts still anticipated in Jamaica

Good morning, a very quick update on Melissa. Multiple reconnaissance aircraft have been in the storm early this morning and confirmed what I discussed late last night, that Melissa has become a category 5 hurricane, the third of the Atlantic season. Maximum sustained winds are 160 mph and the central pressure of the storm is 913 millibars, which is extremely low and representative of an intense category 5 hurricane. The satellite presentation remains incredibly classic as the hurricane continues to drift west this morning to the south of Jamaica.

The forecast and (catastrophic) impacts remain pretty much on track as of now. More blurbs, Substack notes and BlueSky posts as time permits today.
